Top Knots and Side Jobs
All of these pieces are built up over a period of months if not years. Many other things are also going on at the same time. They have become my companions in my journey through life and I look at them as part of my family. At the same time, I hope that someday they will be adopted by someone that can love them as I do. Basically, they are just small blocks of wood salvaged from my wood pile and given various treatments to bring out their inner beauty. They are really collaborations with nature. It is the nature of the wood to always be wood and to act like wood no matter what the circumstances. And it is the nature of the cashew lacquer color that I laboriously build up on the surfaces and to be like skins or clothes that both reveal and hide what is underneath.
The basic forms have been accessorized, meaning that I have felt the need to add something. This accent is a little nod to my own ongoing quest to be a little more perfect, a little more dashing and pleasing to the senses.
